Rutsiro: Hotel Construction offers employment to more than 200 people

The preparations to build a modern hotel in Rutsiro district has given more than 200 people employment opportunities. The new employees of the hotel say they can now provide for their families while others say they will make their dream project that will be developmental from the payments of the hotel.

Schadrack Abiyingoma a resident of Mushubati sector who managed to get a job as head of building aides is confident that his payments will change his luck to the better. He will use his money to buy a second sewing machine.

“I need a sewing machine that costs Rwf200.000 and I will get that money from this work as they pay us once every 2 weeks and I get about Rwf12.000 if I work harder.”

Ms. Francine Uwamaliya an orphan who takes care of 2 children is excited at this temporally work since she can now provide for herself as well as the children she is taking care of, she is able to pay rent and food for all of them and even save some.

The hotel construction employs about 115 aides of who might get increased depending on the type of work to be done and each is paid 1000 daily, they work 6 days a week from 7hrs to 1630hrs in the afternoon.

The new hotel employees have already formed cooperatives made of 15 people each and every member contributes Rwf2000 in 2 weeks and give one member gets Rwf30000 every 2 weeks a thing that will be done to all members of the cooperative.

The hotel also employs 40 builders who are paid between Rwf2000 and Rwf3500 depending on each builder’s capabilities. There are also 32 workers who roll wires that will be used in constructing walls. There are also 15 workers who form timbers for the hotel construction.

The construction process of this hotel started in December 2012 and it will be constructed in 18 months and will be worth Rwf950 million.
