Rwanda | Ngororero: Why RAMA does not benefit some civil servants
Some civil servants have not been able to benefit from RAMA health insurance due to some mistakes that are committed by employers and employees from recent years.
This was revealed after some health centres in Ngororero district revealed that some government workers are refused medical care but sent to Rwanda Social Security Board for RAMA insurance clarification.

One civil servant who preferred anonymity asserts: “some workers have all the requirements and the money is paid for them but they are mistakenly put on the list of workers without qualifications.”
This is common in government school teachers who in last year 2012 paid for mutual health insurance in Muhanga district when the employer had paid their social security funds as this worker explains.

After RSSB offices were set up in Ngororero district, some civil workers felt the problem is over and rushed to hospitals forgetting there are procedures followed like having ID card number.
However, a new list is being made for government workers that qualify for RAMA insurance and those who don’t so that the computerized system allows them to have treatment.
RSSB workers say that employers have embarked on reminding employees to go through the required procedures so that they get RAMA insurance.
To help workers solve the problem easily, a new method that helps them get information about RAMA on mobile phones has been put in place. “Type ‘ubuzima’, your insurance number and send to 0788301593.
Protogene Niyonsenga, in charge of teachers and health workers’ salaries in Ngororero district confirms this problem exists due to some workers who do not complete the execution procedures.
However, new measures have been taken to solve the problem with the help of the employers.
