Rwanda | Rulindo: Authorities intervene in salary delay issues between Chico contractors, workers
After residents started asking the authorities to demand their salaries from CHICO contractor, Rulindo district administration has embarked on resolving the problem.
This comes to life after Tumba sector residents that worked in Chico (Chinese company) on November 22nd 2012 woke up to request the district authorities to demand their salaries from Everigiste Ngango of Chico.
Residents reveal they have not been paid for April, June, October and November 2012.
Frederic Uwizeyimana, one of them narrates: “we have been lied to a number of times but ended up without our money. We have come to report our case to the authorities because we feel it’s the contractor but not the Chinese that have failed to pay us.”
One Mukandayisenga laments: “Some of us use a lot of money on transport to come and demand for our money. We completed his work; let the district authorities find a way to help us get this money.”
Everine Nyirahakizimana, labour supervisor in Rulindo district asserts: “If they worked, they must be paid. The employer should understand that workers cannot do anything right when not paid yet they wake up early everyday to go and work in his company.”
However, Rwiyemezamirimo Everigiste Ngango denies the whole issue saying they were not paid some months because they were called to pick the money but refused purposely. He promised they will get it in three days after that day.
The vice-mayor for economic affairs in Rulindo district advises entrepreneurs to pay their workers in time before they seek the help of the district administration.
