Day laborers working on the Batima-Nzangwa road in Rweru sector in Bugesera district have pleaded with the district authorities to intervene in the issue of delayed payment of dues.

The workers say that the contracted constructor FIECO, owned by Gonzalve Karemangingo disappeared in thin air after failing to accomplish the contracted job of 4.5kilometers.

The affected road constructors say that the entrepreneur (Karemangingo) has disappeared with their arrears of four months and none of his workers know his whereabouts. They also alleged that they raised the case to local leaders in vain.

One of the employees, Kamana Jean said that; “We want the district to follow up the owner of the construction company since they signed the agreement with the entrepreneur, and with his details, the district can trace his whereabouts”

The district Mayor, Rwagaju Louis says that the contractor managed to meet 95% of the job indicated in the contract and was able to handover part of the completed work to the district, on condition that the company had to complete the undone job (5%) and officially the whole project.

The Mayor also revealed that the contractor has been sick in the past months and had to go for medical treatment outside the country, but promised that the unpaid residents would receive their money as soon as possible.

He also asked them to be patient since the district is aware of the problem and following it up closely.
